Palau

Where is Palau?

The Republic of Palau is a country made up of 250+ islands located in the western Pacific Ocean in Micronesia. Palau is best visited by liveaboard in order to see the biggest variety of dive sites, as well as to appreciate the surrounding scenery while traveling. However you can also book a stay at a dive resort if you prefer to be based on land.

From the famous Blue Corner to the wrecks at Peleliu, Palau liveaboards can offer multiple itinerary options typically 7 nights long.

What will I see?

Liveaboard diving in Palau should be at the top of every diver's bucketlist! Palau has many unique dive sites where you can see a huge variety of marine life. Thriving reefs, drop-offs, drift dives, caves, and wrecks boast over 1300 species of fish and over 700 species of coral. Even the renowned Jellyfish Lake, full of 100's of non-stinging jellyfish! Thresher, guitar, grey reef, white tip and leopard sharks are common, as well as whale sharks, mantas, and turtles. You can also find plenty of microspecies if you get tired of seeing pelagics.

When is the best time to go?

High season runs from December-March and during this time there are flat, calm seas and dry weather. Shoulder seasons are April, July-August, and October-November when the winds are stronger and there is more rainfall. Lastly the low season runs from May-June and September where the weather fluctuates the most. During these months, there are the least amount of visitors and lowest prices.

How do I get there?

You will need to fly into Koror (ROR), Palau via Guam, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, or the Philippines. All of the liveaboards and dive resorts are based from here.

What do I need to go?

It is recommended to have logged at least 40 dives and have your advanced certification before taking a liveaboard, as the diving is typically >20m depth and currents can be quite strong. Nitrox certification is also available to use nitrox onboard during the week. This is recommended for maximizing your bottom time with the wildlife and to minimize DCS risks. Dive gear is available to rent.
