Barbados is a medium sized island (21x14 miles) in the West Indies where the Caribbean meets the Atlantic Ocean, blessed with plentiful dive sites in crystal blue water. For diving, you will focus your time on the west coast of the island, as the east is more for surf with no reef worth scouting out. The majority of tourism is focused on the west side of the island as well. Plus incredible sunsets!
Barbados is known as the one of the shipwreck capitals of the Caribbean for divers. They range in difficulty from beginner level (snorkel) to advanced (40+m deep). The wrecks are covered in beautiful corals which attracts many species of fish and turtles, especially! Barbados diving overall is fairly calm with good visibility.
There is a wet season from June to November in Barbados, and a dry season from December to May. That being said, the temperature only fluctuates a few degrees throughout the year, making the island a tropical paradise year round. Being in the Atlantic, they do not get hit by storms or hurricanes frequently.
You will need to fly into Bridgetown (BGI) or arrive by boat charter if already nearby in the Caribbean. Unless you're staying in town, it would be wise to rent a car to explore the island. The alternative is to take taxis or the local buses.
Rental equipment is available for all destinations above. Additional course certifications for advanced open water diving, and freediving are available with your dive company.
