Bahamas

Where are the Bahamas?

The Bahamas are a chain of over 3000 islands, cays, and inlets in the West Indies, about 180 miles southeast from Miami. It has the world’s third largest barrier reef, countless blue holes, thriving coral reefs, and near-forgotten shipwrecks which offer endless thrills for experienced and first-time divers. The most common places to dive are from Nassau, Freeport, Bimini, the Abacos, and the Exumas.

What will I see?

The Bahamas has multiple locations for shark dives (lemons, reef, nurse, and tigers), including Tiger Beach in Freeport, Shark Rodeo in the Abacos, and Shark Buoy in Nassau. The reef is large and healthy with 1000s of species of sealife. There are also a huge variety of caves, walls, shipwrecks, and blue holes that you can dive. Liveaboards are a popular choice here so that you can take advantage of the dive site diversity! Non-diver friends can enjoy the unique experience of snorkeling at Pig Beach in the Exumas.

When is the best time to go?

The Bahamas have warm temperatures year round, making for very comfortable diving! However hurricane season is from June-October, which is something to be weary of. Peak tourism is from November-January and March.

How do I get there?

You will need to fly into Nassau (NAS), Freeport (FPO), Bimini (BIM), Abacos (MHH), or Exuma (GGT) and schedule a transfer to your hotel or ferry port, depending where you're heading next. Additionally, you can charter a seaplane or boat, take a ferry, or island hop by liveaboard.

What do I need to go?

Rental equipment is available. Additional course certifications for advanced open water diving and freediving are available with your dive company.
